We know Evan Sayet and this is not intended as a personal attack. That said, we also respected him when he told us he was a “paid political consultant to the Cruz campaign” and his perspectives at the time, differed greatly from ours.
We also know that many who supported Ted Cruz were either silent after Donald Trump received the Republican presidential nomination, or went all out on the “vote your conscience” last-ditch attempt to thwart the will of the millions who voted for the party front runner. Some even publicly announced they’d never vote for Donald Trump in the general election and were rewarded with a gubmint job.
It now infuriates us that some of the very people who lectured us about “conservative principles” and insulted Trump supporters daily on social media or on their radio programs are now being praised for telling us what we already knew about President Trump as if THEY knew it all along.
On TownHall, which was clearly #AntiTrump during the primaries, Evan Sayet led off his latest piece (that’s being received with the highest of social media accolades and “38k” shares) with…
My Leftist friends (as well as many ardent #NeverTrumpers) constantly ask me if I’m not bothered by Donald Trump’s lack of decorum. They ask if I don’t think his tweets are “beneath the dignity of the office.”
Again, don’t get us started with liberals so concerned about the very “dignity of the office” they had no problem being stained with bodily secretions.
We clearly remember the many laments from unelected, so-called “conservative leaders” who arrogantly reminded us what true conservatism was and who could be allowed into THEIR tent.
We remember the blatant attempt by so-called conservatives who sought to undermine the process in many states to make sure Donald Trump’s delegates were given to Ted Cruz by any means necessary. Right here in Virginia, while Donald Trump won the primary vote, his delegates were stolen and given to Cruz by “principled conservatives”; conservatives who now remind us of why we should all support President Trump, and with even greater chutzpah, fundraise off of the man they previously vilified.
So, to my friends on the Left – and the #NeverTrumpers as well — do I wish we lived in a time when our president could be “collegial” and “dignified” and “proper”? Of course I do. These aren’t those times. This is war. And it’s a war that the Left has been fighting without opposition for the past 50 years.
So, say anything you want about this president – I get it, he can be vulgar, he can be crude, he can be undignified at times. I don’t care. I can’t spare this man. He fights.
— Evan Sayet, 7/13/17
Sorry, but his hit-back demeanor was exactly why many of us supported Donald Trump; a demeanor that was then considered beneath the dignity of the Republican Party but effectively took out 16 other primary candidates and finally, despite conventional wisdom, Hillary Clinton. Now we’re being told that the fact he “fights” is a good thing.
Thanks for the heads up.
While Evan wasn’t a rabid #Cruzer, he did throw a few jabs at candidate Trump.
Again, we love Evan and hopefully we can do lunch again during CPAC 2018, IF it’s worth the waste of two and a half days of our lives, not to mention the expenses. But as usual, this will be that teachable moment that the unelected conservative leaders will assume is not meant for them, but it is.
Arrogance is an ugly trait and when you believe you should be listened to and obeyed because you are YOU, don’t be surprised when you’re called on your error in judgment, especially when many of them are acting now like they were on our side all along. What they said and did, before and after the Republican convention was remembered and until they offer up that public mea culpa they’d demand of anyone THEY proved to be totally wrong, don’t get all bent because we all haven’t forgiven and forgotten.
