How can they be held accountable?

Well, there’s 8 U.S. Code § 1324 for starters.

Harboring — Subsection 1324(a)(1)(A)(iii) makes it an offense for any person who — knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, conceals harbors, or shields from detection, or attempts to conceal, harbor, or shield from detection, such alien in any place, including any building or any means of transportation.

The problem is countless of Americans have been impacted by the presence of illegal aliens; many have had personal property stolen and the physical damages range from varying degrees of injury from drunk drivers, assaults, rapes and murder, yet elected officials wish to protect them over citizens.

In the case of a few states, illegals are being protected by the same elected politicians who’ve been tasked with protecting the public.

It’s not only politicians that make it easy for illegal aliens to freely move and thus avoid apprehension from law enforcement.

There are a myriad of nonprofits who assist illegal aliens in obtaining all kinds of local, state, and federal government benefits ranging from food, cash, legal and housing assistance. They are essentially aiding and abetting illegal activities but under the umbrella of their nonprofit status, also receive tax benefits and protections while sheltering those who’ve broken at least one federal law, if not more.

Politicians and activists who support them should not be above the law and imagine how these politicians might uphold their sworn duties if they faced the ramification of their actions and were held responsible for the lives affected and/or lost.

Penalties — The basic statutory maximum penalty for violating 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(i) and (v)(I) (alien smuggling and conspiracy) is a fine under title 18, imprisonment for not more than 10 years, or both. In addition, significant enhanced penalties are provided for in violations of 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1) involving serious bodily injury or placing life in jeopardy. Moreover, if the violation results in the death of any person, the defendant may be punished by death or by imprisonment for any term of years.

Think about the thousands of Americans who’d be here today had those who took the oath to uphold our laws, done their jobs in the first place and had been appropriately punished when they blew off our laws for self-serving political motivations.

UPDATE

If not for the obvious agenda and indifference to the safety of the American people, the following could not be said with a straight face.

“They are not criminals,” California Attorney General Xavier Becerra (D) said of migrants who cross without authorization. “They haven’t committed a crime against someone, and they are not acting violently or in a way that’s harmful to people. And I would argue they are not harming people indirectly either.”

“If you call them criminals, it’s a lot easier to get people to turn against them than if you call them undocumented immigrants,” Becerra said.

UPDATE

As is often the case, irony rears its ugly head. California legislators have told ICE to butt out and leave illegals alone… that is until they got their way and now have to assume the costs.

San Diego County is suing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) over the rising cost of asylum seekers. The Southern California county filed a lawsuit Wednesday against the heads of the agencies within the department, claiming the county has suffered from the release of asylum-seeking migrants.

Many illegal immigrants can not be immediately deported and must be allowed to stay in the country to wait out their court case, because of loopholes in immigration law.

“Loopholes”…? Try judges, lawmakers, immigration lawyers and nonprofits who advocate for illegals over US Immigration law.

Due to limited funds and housing resources, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) were forced to stop implementing their “safe release” policy last fall, which provided asylum seekers assistance to reach destinations outside of San Diego. The county is now left to front the bill for the upkeep of migrant shelters and medical care, which is estimated to cost millions of dollars.

This lawsuit is a dramatic shift for San Diego as supervisors last April voted to back the Trump administration’s lawsuit challenging California sanctuary laws.

Maybe if Sacramento Democrats weren’t so welcoming of illegal aliens, the rest of the state wouldn’t find themselves in the dire situation they (and the nation) now find themselves in.

What’s more, he warned in Senate testimony Thursday, loopholes in federal law will result in some 650,000 illegal immigrants — more than the population of Wyoming — being released into the United States, where most will “never to be heard from again.”

It sounds so “unconscionable” and heartless when they intentionally leave out the word “illegal”.

Also unconscionable are the hundreds of people whose lives have been directly and negatively affected by those who the federal, state and local politicians decided not to protect the public from.

As Americans, we should only care about three things: (1) are the immigrants in the U.S. illegally; (2) have they committed violent crimes predominantly against U.S. citizens; and (3) had these criminals not been in our country illegally, these crimes, the victimization of our citizens and the costs of their crimes borne by American taxpayers could have been completely avoided.

Research conducted by the federal government oversight organization Judicial Watch in 2014 documents that 50 percent of all federal crimes were committed near our border with Mexico.

The pro-illegal immigrant lobby consistently misrepresents the criminal involvement of illegal immigrants as compared to immigrants who legally enter the U.S. and American citizens, saying that illegal immigrants commit less crimes than their counterparts.

According to the FBI, 67,642 murders were committed in the U.S. from 2005 through 2008, and 115,717 from 2003 through 2009. The General Accounting Office documents that criminal immigrants committed 25,064 of these murders.

While they live in protected homes, workplaces and some even have round-the-clock armed security, they left the public at risk from those whose very first act in the United States was a violation of federal law.

This is something “parents with DACA” should have wrestled with BEFORE they decided to violate the United States’ sovereign border because THEY wanted to, assumed THEY were wanted here, and shortsightedly put their children in the legal limbo they find themselves in today.

Well, that kinda’ conveniently lets everyone off the hook… again.

Not once can we remember a DACA child admit their parents are to blame for their current predicament. Illegal immigration is the ONLY felony committed in the United States where, since so many millions have violated it, there’s a political desire by opportunists to change the law. As we’ve argued before, the laws against grand larceny would never be changed even if millions decided to rob banks in order to provide a better life for their families, yet millions can violate our immigration law and be declared a victim deserving of sympathy.

The law is quite clear.

Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.

The law doesn’t say anything about leniency for children being brought into the United States by parents who, by the very action of sneaking in, knew they were breaking the law. They just never believed THEY or their children would be caught and held responsible for their illegal actions.

Those innocent children of illegal aliens need to have that conversation with their parents before they assemble in front of the White House and demand an exemption of federal law be made for them simply because those parents intentionally violated federal law and involved them as well.

President Obama’s executive action was unconstitutional. The parents of illegal aliens who brought children along for the ride when entering the United States, simply because they had the convenience of a border to run across and blew off the process many wait years to complete, are to blame here. NOT the American people, not immigration law, and not President Trump.

Univision anchor Jorge Ramos argued that the vast majority of illegal immigrants in America are just people trying to create better lives for themselves and their families.

Try robbing a bank and once caught, argue that you were only trying to make a better life for your family and see how far that gets you.

It’s just a question if the willfully-undocumented, their children and supporters will ever accept responsibility for their illegal actions because they’re not expected to.

As a side note, Obama’s DACA executive order was in response to the thousands of children, sent unaccompanied by their parents, to the United States and the result was young people mixed in with the children brought into the country by their illegal parents who became known as DREAMers.

Not that anyone has intentionally misled the nation on the issue….

According to the Immigration and Nationality Act Section 237 (a)(1)(B)

Classes of deportable aliens
Any alien (including an alien crewman) in and admitted to the United States shall, upon the order of the Attorney General, be removed if the alien is within one or more of the following classes of deportable aliens:

1. Inadmissible at time of entry or of adjustment of status or violates status

A. Inadmissible aliens
Any alien who at the time of entry or adjustment of status was within one or more of the classes of aliens inadmissible by the law existing at such time is deportable.

B. Present in violation of law
Any alien who is present in the United States in violation of this chapter or any other law of the United States, or whose nonimmigrant visa (or other documentation authorizing admission into the United States as a nonimmigrant) has been revoked under section 221(i) of this Act [8 U.S.C 1201(i)] , is deportable.

It doesn’t get much more clear than that.

Granted things will get complicated if the Attorney General refuses to give “the order”.

But just because untold millions (don’t believe any of the numbers you are told unless you’re ready to multiply it by at least two) of illegal aliens willingly violated our sovereign border doesn’t mean the law itself is “broken”, that is if you also are willing to cite the AG as an accessory to the crime for willful neglect of his duties as the law’s enforcer.

But let’s, just for a few minutes, admit the law IS broken despite a lack of political resolve to enforce the border. If millions of people violate a law, should we just forgive the lawbreakers and have our lawmakers succumb to political pressure and rewrite the law in the lawbreaker’s favor?

For example, many people are beaten up in the country every day. Should we just forgive those who’ve committed the beatings, have yet to be caught, and rewrite the law that made aggravated assault illegal?

Many banks, liquor stores, and gas stations are robbed every day. Should we just forgive those who’ve committed the robberies, have yet to be caught, and rewrite the law that made grand larceny and armed robbery a criminal offense?

While the above examples are crimes with victims, it can’t honestly be argued that illegal immigration is a victimless crime.

Let’s not fall for the whole “immigrants put more into the system than they take out”. That can be debunked on many levels. The cost of illegal immigration and those who accept the taxpayer-funded benefits once here are in the billions annually.

Aside from the fact many pay no federal income tax, sales tax is no great equalizer. A good portion of the illegal’s earnings are sent back home to family, thus only really benefits companies like Western Union. And as most of us value human life over money, the number of violent crimes committed by illegal aliens that hurt residents (kidnapping, rape, murder, driving under the influence) aren’t worth their so-called contributions.

There is an estimated 11.5 million undocumented people living, working and raising families in the United States. We need to get those with no criminal records into the system, on the books, and the ability to earn legal status. It is in our national interest to reestablish the rule of law and make sure that everyone — employers, citizens, immigrants, and law enforcement — are playing by a clear set of rules that are evenly enforced. That is what comprehensive immigration reform is all about.

How Congressman Gutierrez expects cooperation from those who disregarded the rules in the first place is something that will probably be addressed and ultimately excused later.

The children who crossed our border illegally shouldn’t expect us to rewrite our lawsbecause their parents dragged them across. Take it up with them and ask them to justify their lawbreaking. Having them take responsibility for the actions will never happen, so why should we want such people here? We have more than enough of that already.

I know it’ll never happen, but if you wish to advocate for illegal aliens, explain the reasoning to an immigrant still waiting for years to come here legally (who doesn’t have the convenience of a border to walk across), but don’t insult our intelligence by saying the “law is broken”.

It isn’t and never was.
