It’s not that you will get sick, it’s that you risk infecting others. So, being shut in for a couple of weeks working from home is short-term pain-for lack of a better term—for long-term gain. Still, people in D.C. flocked to the bars. Not anymore, the mayor’s office locked them down last night. Or these folks pack the beaches in Florida. Every bad thing that’s said about Millennials is being brought into fruition with how we’re acting concerning this overhyped, though still serious, medical situation. I mean, most are Democrats, so there was already a deficit with regards to measuring a generation. I, frankly, cannot stand the leftist attitudes of my peers. Anyway, now that they’re committed to going out and about because they wish to spread this virus, let’s go to the worst-case scenario for this disease.
— Matt Vespa, 3/17/20

Yeah, lets….

Despite the current demographic numbers of Coronavirus victims, it’s a good bet that all ages will eventually be impacted. Responsible people should fare better than the careless and that’s where millennials and Gen X may screw things up for everyone.

These are the ones who were coddled by their parents, been made to believe the world revolves around them, their opinions were just as important than the adults around them, and through this they’ve also come to believe nothing meaningful has happened until THEY became self aware. The results are young people who are not just self-centered and disrespectful but in some cases, quite ignorant.

Yes, going out drinking during a presidential-declared national emergency is not the brightest thing to do, but since the Coronavirus is invisible, it can’t be anywhere around them and if it is, they won’t contract it, right. And if they do, the symptoms won’t be bad because bad things won’t happen to them.

A top official on the White House coronavirus task force issued an ominous warning on Wednesday, declaring that more millennials in Italy and France had gotten sick than anticipated because they failed to heed warnings about large gatherings after initials warnings that focused on the elderly.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the closure of all bars and nightclubs in the state for 30 days as of Tuesday evening — after college crews were spotted partying at Clearwater Beach.

“If I get corona, I get corona,” Brady Sluder, a defiant party animal of indeterminate age from Ohio, told Reuters. “At the end of the day, I’m not going to let it stop me from partying.”

After all, these are the same people who thought snorting condoms was a one-up on eating Tide PODS®. Could they really get any dumber?

God help us.

I’m not at all wishing literal ill on a whole generation, but the arrogance being displayed here is alarming because it won’t just affect them. They can end up infecting many more people who were trying to do the right and responsible thing.

Brianna Smith, a 21-year-old from Wisconsin, whined that the measures were too drastic. “It’s really messing with my spring break. What is there to do here other than go to the bars or the beach? And they’re closing all of it,” Smith told the outlet. “I think they’re blowing it way out of proportion. I think it’s doing way too much.”

We can only all hope, at some point, these millennials begin to think about others instead of just themselves.

Blymire’s Tweet has been cut-and-pasted almost in its entirely in case it’s later removed due to the customary pile-on that can ensue after fragile egos are exposed.

Here is a hopefully short synopsis of something that happened this week that I still don’t understand.

In office space near a client, a young woman was meeting with her boss. She was (by my estimation) in her late 20s.

The boss (also a woman) was giving her feedback and reviewing edits she had made on something this young woman wrote.

They had been speaking in low tones, but their volume got louder toward the end of the conversation because the young woman was getting agitated about a particular edit.

That particular edit was correcting the spelling of “hampster” to “hamster”. Apparently she had used the phrase “like spinning in a hamster wheel” in this draft (presumably) speech or op-ed.

The young woman kept saying, “I don’t know why you corrected that because I spell it with the P in it.” The boss said (calmly), “But that’s not how the word is spelled. There is no P in hamster.”

Young woman: “But you don’t know that! I learned to spell it with a P in it so that’s how I spell it.”

The boss (remaining very calm and professional), let’s go to dictionary.com and look it up together.

(mind you, this is a woman in her late 20s, not a 5th grader)

The young woman insists she doesn’t need to look it up because it’s FINE to spell it with a P because that’s HOW SHE WANTED TO SPELL IT.

The boss says, “Let’s look over the rest of the piece so I can explain the rest of my edits.”

They do, and I can see the young woman is fighting back tears.

The boss is calm, cool, and handles this with professionalism and empathy.

Boss says, “I know edits can be difficult to go over sometimes, especially when you’re working on new kinds of things as you grow in your career, but it’s a necessary process and makes us all better at what we do.”

Boss gets up from table and goes to her office and the young woman can barely hold it together.

She moves to another table in the common workspace area, drops all her stuff loudly on the table top, and starts texting.

A minute later, her phone rings.

It was her mom. She had texted her mom to call her because it was urgent, and I’m sure her mother maybe thought she was in the ER or something.

She then … PUTS HER MOM ON SPEAKERPHONE. IN THE WORKPLACE.

She bursts into tears and wants her mom to call her boss and tell her not to be mean about telling her how to spell words like “hamster”.

The mother tells her that her boss is an idiot and she doesn’t have to listen to her and she should go to the boss’ boss to file a complaint about not allowing creativity in her writing.

The young woman kept saying, “I thought what I wrote was perfect and she just made all these changes and then had the nerve to tell me I was spelling words wrong when I know they are right because that is how I have always spelled them.”

She then went on (still on speakerphone) to tell her mom I’m very great and office-inappropriate detail about how hungover she was and what she and her friends did with some guys the night before. Mom laughed and laughed.

The colleagues in and around the workplace kept looking at one another and some even put earbuds/headphones in/on. It appeared as though this was a regular thing with her.

She ended the conversation asking her mom how she should bring this up with the boss’ boss. “I mean, I always spell hamster with a P, she has no right to criticize me.”

She walked to the office kitchen for the rest of the call so I don’t know what happened next.

But I don’t know what her situation is/was. Based on the way her mom spoke to her and they way they spoke to one another, it seemed as though his young woman had never been told she was anything but perfect by family.

I think I was most perplexed by the insistence of wanting to spell something the way she wanted to because SHE WANTED TO, ignoring the fact that there are rules and dictionaries.

And seeming offended that anyone would suggest the use of an outside resource as reference.

But it seemed more like someone who has never been told no, or that she is anything other than 100% perfect and amazing and can do no wrong. And that is going to be exhausting for anyone in her orbit.

Sounds like this 20-something may end up being a congresswoman…

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone wp-image-4706 size-large" title="Rep.

By Bob Parks

I grew up in the section of Boston called The South End which was sandwiched between the more affluent Back Bay and the impoverished neighborhood of Roxbury, considered “the heart of Black culture in Boston“. When I later got my own apartment on Tremont Street, I (as a courtesy) escorted all of my white friends in; not because they’d really be all that endangered but to make them feel comfortable.

That was in the 70s.

Now, when we go visit that same area, I am met with glares of suspicion from tolerant, inclusive white liberals of all ages. It’s like they want to know if I have a reason to be in this area that was technically the Hood and now a very expensive enclave of condos and high-priced luxury apartments?

So when I see what recently happened in a gentrified section of New York City, I understand….

This young, privileged millennial-sounding woman riding a bicycle acts she owns the neighborhood street.

She pays no excise taxes, regularly-scheduled inspection fees, insurance, fuel, routine maintenance or any other massive expense those who drive automobiles do, yet she believes she can stop traffic and talk down to those who may have previously lived there and no longer can afford to.

In 2014, Spike Lee relayed the sentiment by gentrification-affected blacks pushed out by the yuppie class.

Here’s the thing: I grew up here in Fort Greene. I grew up here in New York. It’s changed. And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better? The garbage wasn’t picked up every motherfuckin’ day when I was living in 165 Washington Park. P.S. 20 was not good. P.S. 11. Rothschild 294. The police weren’t around. When you see white mothers pushing their babies in strollers, three o’clock in the morning on 125th Street, that must tell you something.

[Audience member: And I don’t dispute that … ]

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And even more. Let me kill you some more.

[Audience member: Can I talk about something?]

Not yet.

Then comes the motherfuckin’ Christopher Columbus Syndrome. You can’t discover this! We been here. You just can’t come and bogart. There were brothers playing motherfuckin’ African drums in Mount Morris Park for 40 years and now they can’t do it anymore because the new inhabitants said the drums are loud. My father’s a great jazz musician. He bought a house in nineteen-motherfuckin’-sixty-eight, and the motherfuckin’ people moved in last year and called the cops on my father. He’s not — he doesn’t even play electric bass! It’s acoustic! We bought the motherfuckin’ house in nineteen-sixty-motherfuckin’-eight and now you call the cops? In 2013? Get the fuck outta here!

Nah. You can’t do that. You can’t just come in the neighborhood and start bogarting and say, like you’re motherfuckin’ Columbus and kill off the Native Americans. Or what they do in Brazil, what they did to the indigenous people. You have to come with respect. There’s a code. There’s people.

You can’t just — here’s another thing: When Michael Jackson died they wanted to have a party for him in motherfuckin’ Fort Greene Park and all of a sudden the white people in Fort Greene said, “Wait a minute! We can’t have black people having a party for Michael Jackson to celebrate his life. Who’s coming to the neighborhood? They’re gonna leave lots of garbage.” Garbage? Have you seen Fort Greene Park in the morning? It’s like the motherfuckin’ Westminster Dog Show. There’s 20,000 dogs running around. Whoa. So we had to move it to Prospect Park!

I mean, they just move in the neighborhood. You just can’t come in the neighborhood. I’m for democracy and letting everybody live but you gotta have some respect. You can’t just come in when people have a culture that’s been laid down for generations and you come in and now shit gotta change because you’re here? Get the fuck outta here. Can’t do that!

And then! [to audience member] Whoa whoa whoa. And then! So you’re talking about the people’s property change? But what about the people who are renting? They can’t afford it anymore! You can’t afford it. People want live in Fort Greene. People wanna live in Clinton Hill. The Lower East Side, they move to Williamsburg, they can’t even afford fuckin’, motherfuckin’ Williamsburg now because of motherfuckin’ hipsters. What do they call Bushwick now? What’s the word? [Audience: East Williamsburg]

That’s another thing: Motherfuckin’… These real estate motherfuckers are changing names! Stuyvesant Heights? 110th to 125th, there’s another name for Harlem. What is it? What? What is it? No, no, not Morningside Heights. There’s a new one. [Audience: SpaHa] What the fuck is that? How you changin’ names?

And we had the crystal ball, motherfuckin’ Do the Right Thing with John Savage’s character, when he rolled his bike over Buggin’ Out’s sneaker. I wrote that script in 1988. He was the first one. How you walking around Brooklyn with a Larry Bird jersey on? You can’t do that. Not in Bed Stuy.

So, look, you might say, “Well, there’s more police protection. The public schools are better.” Why are the public schools better? First of all, everybody can’t afford — even if you have money it’s still hard to get your kids into private school. Everybody wants to go to Saint Ann’s — you can’t get into Saint Ann’s. You can’t get into Friends. What’s the other one? In Brooklyn Heights. Packer. If you can’t get your child into there … It’s crazy. There’s a business now where people — you pay — people don’t even have kids yet and they’re taking this course about how to get your kid into private school. I’m not lying! If you can’t get your kid into private school and you’re white here, what’s the next best thing? All right, now we’re gonna go to public schools.

So, why did it take this great influx of white people to get the schools better? Why’s there more police protection in Bed Stuy and Harlem now? Why’s the garbage getting picked up more regularly? We been here!

All right, go ahead. Let’s see you come back to that.

Much has been made of millennials and their value to society. Corporations actively market to them. Hollywood and Madison Avenue messaging is tailored to their narcissism and that of their children.

But it’s past the point where their self-absorption and lack of maturity is no longer a surprise, no matter where they decide to act out.

Maggie Hassan, D-N.H. Fox News is told she has not been terminated and will continue to work there through August.

Fox News is told that Marriott’s decision to hector President Trump was “impulsive.”
— Fox News, 6/25/18

“hector”…? Did a millennial write or proof this?

Aside from the lack of decorum that would’ve been enough to have us banished for publicly embarrassing our families back-in-the-day, the fact it was applauded by the under-30’s in today’s “media” is even more evidence of how they don’t deserve the pitards they’ve been hoisted upon.

Yelling fuck you to the president isn’t exactly novel; it happens a million times a day online. But there was something different about this one, not only because it reportedly came from a congressional intern, but because it was said directly to him. It’s unclear if the president heard the insult, and even if he did, whether the wet rats who pull the steampunk levers in his desiccated brain would have processed it anyway. But it was a sorely needed message delivered directly.
Millennials got so many participation trophies growing up that a recent study showed that 40% believe they should be promoted every two years, regardless of performance. They are fame-obsessed: three times as many middle school girls want to grow up to be a personal assistant to a famous person as want to be a Senator, according to a 2007 survey; four times as many would pick the assistant job over CEO of a major corporation. Their development is stunted: more people ages 18 to 29 live with their parents than with a spouse, according to the 2012 Clark University Poll of Emerging Adults. And they are lazy. In 1992, the nonprofit Families and Work Institute reported that 80% of people under 23 wanted to one day have a job with greater responsibility; 10 years later, only 60% did.

There will soon come a time when hiring a millennial may be a risky proposition. Will someone within a company want to be called on the carpet by his or her boss and have to explain the actions of an immature person whose employment they greenlighted? While we just went to work and did our jobs, many accommodations have been made to make life less stressful for the millennial and the return on investment is questionable at best.

Should we ever be in the position to start hiring, bringing on someone in this problematic demographic would not be in our best interest.
