When it comes to the “superspreader” event in Boston last February, it wasn’t that the medical intelligentsia didn’t know how bad things could get.

They just thought they were special….

In all too many instances the book-smart have been shown to do stupid things; things that cost the rest of us.

In the Harbor View Ballroom of the Boston Marriott Long Wharf hotel, about 175 executives were expected at the Biogen leadership conference on Feb. 26. Employees from Biogen locations around the United States and the world reunited with colleagues they don’t often get to see.

They greeted each other enthusiastically, with handshakes and hugs, and then caught up over breakfast, picking from plates of pastries and the self-serve hot food bar. They were there for two days of discussions and presentations about the future of the Cambridge-based, multinational biotech firm, which develops therapies for neurological diseases. It was the kind of under-the-radar gathering that happens in this region just about every week.

Within days, though, the Biogen conference would be infamous, identified as an epicenter of the Massachusetts outbreak of Covid-19, with 70 of 92 coronavirus infections in the state linked to the conference as of Tuesday night, including employees and those who came into contact with them. That doesn’t include a cascade of individual cases in Tennessee, North Carolina, Indiana, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., and Norway, and suspected cases in Germany, Austria, and Argentina.

Some appeared to believe they and their pricey event were too important to be inconvenienced.

Biogen executive vice president Alphonse Galdes and chief medical officer Maha Radhakrishnan sent out a message to people across the company describing the illnesses associated with the conference:

“We wanted to inform you that an unexpected high number of attendees have reported varying degrees of flu-like symptoms (fever, headache, cough, body ache, chills, general fatigue, and malaise being among the most common symptoms reported).”

The message added that three attendees had tested positive for Covid-19.

The message said the company could not identify the people who had tested positive, but that out of caution, Biogen wanted everyone who was at the conference to work from home. That information alarmed some employees, who were concerned about having been exposed to the illness in the days prior to the announcement, and were surprised that the company didn’t give employees a better handle on the situation sooner.

While so many Monday morning quarterbacks accuse President Trump of not knowing and doing more at the onset of the pandemic, the medical professional are now appearing to claim they were caught off guard.

Now that the politics may be inconvenient, the media is catching up and are providing numbers.

A two-day international business conference in Boston early in the pandemic was likely a super-spreader event that has been linked to as many as 300,000 coronavirus cases worldwide, according to a new scientific study released on Thursday. The study, published in the journal Science by lead author Jacob Lemieux of Massachusetts General Hospital, found that the event is responsible for roughly 1.6 percent of all U.S. cases since the onset of the pandemic.

According to The Boston Globe, the Biogen conference was held at Boston Marriott Long Wharf hotel between Feb. 26-27 with approximately 175 participants.  Attendees later boarded planes to destinations overseas and across the U.S. but many began feeling sick days later. A public health investigation with contact tracing identified approximately 100 cases directly associated with the conference.

Overall, the unique genetic signature correlated to the virus spreading at the conference has been linked to COVID-19 cases in 29 states and several countries, including Australia, Slovakia, and Sweden. Through Nov. 1, it is estimated that between 205,000-300,000 COVID-19 cases worldwide are directly linked to the conference.

Massachusetts has climbed to rank third among states with the most cases of the coronavirus as it ramps up testing and faces a surge of people sickened in the world-wide pandemic. As of Saturday, Massachusetts reported 34,402 positive cases, behind New York and New Jersey but ahead of far-more-populous states including California, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. The state was fourth in the U.S. among states in tests per capita as of Thursday, according to Johns Hopkins data.

Massachusetts has soared past 1,000 deaths and now only follows New York, New Jersey and Michigan in fatalities.

One can imagine the outrage had a Trump rally been confirmed as a superspreader event, liberals (as they are presently doing) would be screaming they’ve killed people. You know the numbers broadcast would also be headlined by confirmed deaths. Notice how that number is not even hinted at in any of the news reports.

While elected politicians are trampling on the rights of citizens and justify it with “trust the science”, can (or should) we really trust certain “scientists”?

Parents have little idea of what values students are taught, that is until video is inconveniently leaked on social media. While students clearly have problems with the traditional three basics (reading, writing, arithmetic), they sadly appear to know more than enough to make any social justice provocateur proud. To keep the community organizing perpetuated, the indoctrination must continue uninterrupted, even despite COVID-19-inspired restrictions.

Distance learning could be a problem….

Parents of students who attend Rutherford County Schools (RCS) must agree not to monitor their child’s online classroom sessions. Officials at all county schools are asking parents to sign forms agreeing not to watch these virtual classes. The Tennessee Star received a copy of such a form this week.

“RCS strives to present these opportunities in a secure format that protects student privacy to the greatest extent possible, however because these meetings will occur virtually RCS is limited in its ability to fully control certain factors such as non-student observers that may be present in the home of a student participating in the virtual meeting,” according to the form. “RCS strongly discourages non student observation of online meetings due to the potential of confidential information about a student being revealed.”

The form asks parents for their signature and warns that “violation of this agreement may result in RCS removing my child from the virtual meeting.”

When confronted with the “form”, the Rutherford County Schools spokesperson used “privacy” as an excuse.

“We are aware of the concern that has been raised about this distance-learning letter that was sent to parents. The intent was not to prevent parents from being involved with their children during distance learning, but it was intended to protect the academic privacy of other students in the classroom who are visible during certain virtual class sessions. We have issued new guidance to principals that parents can assist their children during virtual group lessons with permission of the instructor but should refrain from sharing or recording any information about other students in the classroom.”

So, a teacher will give a parent permission to “assist their children” but must NOT record or share what they witness. This is problematic and inconsistent on many levels.

Parents used to be able to audit classes, pre-Coronavirus, and could see for themselves what was taught, the classroom interaction, and also see the face of every child in the room. So much for “privacy”.

If teachers are giving students useful academic information, what’s the problem with said presentation being recorded and shared? Those who do whatever they do well usually have no problem with their good work being highlighted and documented for posterity. It’s usually those who aren’t so good at what they do, or have something to hide, that would have a problem with their questionable activities being recorded and shared.

It again needs to be reminded to the general public that, in most cases, teachers are paid with taxpayer money. That means they’re not only to be held accountable to local school committees and parents but the general public. If what students are being taught is a benefit to society, cool.

But if students are being used and indoctrinated to ANY ideology behind the backs of their parent, then all should be concerned and culpable teachers should never be allowed to hide their activities while on the public dime.

A controversial video containing misleading information on the coronavirus was allowed to clock up millions of views before it was pulled from Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. The video was created by right-wing media outlet Breitbart. It depicts a group of people dressed in white lab coats — who call themselves “America’s Frontline Doctors” — staging a press conference outside the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C. Those in the video claim that the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine is “a cure for Covid” and “you don’t need a mask” to slow the spread of coronavirus.

“This virus has a cure, it’s called hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and Zithromax,” one of the women in the video claims. “You don’t need masks, there is a cure.”

During the press conference, a speaker who identifies herself as a doctor makes a number of dubious claims, including that “you don’t need masks” to prevent spread of the coronavirus, and that recent studies showing hydroxychloroquine is ineffective for the treatment of Covid-19 are “fake science” sponsored by “fake pharma companies.”

The “woman” has a name and is also a pro-American minister.

A Nigerian-born and trained physician, Dr Stella Emmanuel, is trending on social media after delivering an impassioned COVID-19 speech in the U.S. on Monday. Speaking at a news conference in Washington, Emmanuel claimed that antimalarial drug, hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and antibacterial drug, Zithromax, were effective cures for the virus.

The Nigerian spoke during a news conference held by a group of American doctors under the aegis of “America’s Frontline Doctors” in front of the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington DC. The doctors are holding a two-day “White Coat Summit” at the Capitol Hill to address what they call a “massive disinformation campaign” surrounding the virus.

Emmanuel dismissed experts’ warning that hydroxychloroquine could cause serious heart problems for coronavirus patients, citing her experience with the use of the drug.

As ignorance is one of social media’s most prominent epidemics, many are claiming Dr. Immanuel has found THE “cure” for COVID-19, that is not the case. She is only sharing her proven experiences based on what was previously used with much-touted, albeit squelched success.

A French doctor, Didier Raoult, claimed in mid-March he had successfully treated COVID-19 patients with hydroxychloroquine.

The report, published online, claimed that 40 coronavirus patients were given hydroxychloroquine, with more than half experiencing the clearing of their airways within three to six days. The study suggested giving an anti-bacterial drug, azithromycin, in tandem, to eliminate the risks of bacterial infection. This research was based on a previous study by Chinese doctors.

Just who would gain from that (and who will be exempted…)?

The unelected officials and the media.

What are we not surprised?

The recent panic regarding the latest “spike” in Coronavirus cases in the United States is being used by state and local politicians to re-shutdown their economies. While many of us have suspected the increase in deaths are being sensationalized while the corresponding death rates are very low and unreported.

But what if the surge in COVID-19 cases, as a result of increased testing, is also irresponsibly bogus?

Think about this: one obscure local television affiliate decided to investigate the numbers issued by their state and found the numbers totally wrong, and the one constant was the issued numbers where highly inflated as opposed to being all over the place. What are the chances of that and how many other areas around the country are being shutdown again based on consistently overinflated “positivity rates”?

Again, this is NOT about public safety.

It’s about tanking the President’s reelection trump card: the economy. If millions of Americans lose their businesses and jobs, it’s a small price to pay while state and federal politicians continue to enjoy no break in their paychecks since this all began. As long as Donald Trump is defeated, to them, that’s all that matters and making sure a few decimal points are moved in their favor doesn’t hurt.

Floridians depend on the coronavirus numbers, but they might not be telling the whole story. Several lawmakers say they are extremely disturbed by the findings, saying there needs to be more oversight. After FOX 35 News noticed errors in the state’s report on positivity rates, the Florida Department of Health said that some laboratories have not been reporting negative test result data to the state. Countless labs have reported a 100 percent positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates.

The Florida Department of Health is now passing the buck only because the narrative was publicly called into question. Obviously, someone in the governor’s office realized that few would laugh with Cuomo’s reaction to Chris Rock’s brand of morbid humor. Could be one reason why so many didn’t want New Yorkers fleeing COVID-19 into their states.

FACT CHECK

There is no indication that spring break partygoer Brady Sluder has died. He was shamed into issuing a public apology.

She took an opportunity during a May 15, 2020 White House Rose Garden event to ask President Trump on why some in his administration wear them and why some do not. One would think someone so concerned about holding the Administration consistent with regards to social distance policy and masks would be observant herself.

Must have been because she got an “all clear” and thought the camera feed was turned off.

As President Trump presses for states to reopen their economies, his administration is privately projecting a steady rise in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths over the next several weeks. The daily death toll will reach about 3,000 on June 1, according to an internal document obtained by The New York Times, a 70 percent increase from the current number of about 1,750.

The projections, based on government modeling pulled together by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, forecast about 200,000 new cases each day by the end of the month, up from about 25,000 cases a day currently.

As expected in our world of sensationalism based on “anonymous” or “official” unnamed sources, the document in question is not presented for public inspection.

As the administration privately predicted a sharp increase in deaths, a public model that has been frequently cited by the White House revised its own estimates, doubling its projected death toll.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington is now estimating that there will be nearly 135,000 deaths in the United States through the beginning of August — more than double what it forecast on April 17, when it estimated 60,308 deaths by Aug. 4. (The country has already had more than 68,000 deaths.)

Again, that “68,000” death count is still up for debate seeing how official numbers appear to double, seemingly overnight.

And back to that University of Washington model that was also conveniently not linked to by the New York Times, how many university and agency models have been correct in their predictions so far?

Not very many, if at all.

Regarding the updated models, our analyses indicate that the later models do not show any improvement in the accuracy of the point estimate predictions. In fact, there is some evidence that this accuracy has actually decreased over the initial models.

So, the “model” predictions are getting worse, but are yet being cited as fact to influence behavior. One would hope disseminating accurate numbers to the public would be a priority before potentially scaring the shit out of millions of people worldwide, let alone domestically.

We already KNOW, based on a named source, that Coronavirus infection numbers are being intentionally driven up for what has to be political purposes.

Reached via email on Monday morning, Joe Macenka, a spokesman for Virginia’s COVID-19 Joint Information Command, confirmed that each positive case of the disease would be counted as a new case altogether. “If a person is tested on different days, those tests are counted as separate,” he said.

Pressed to clarify the policy, Macenka said that repeat positive cases “are counted as separate cases only if the tests occur on different days. If [a Virginia resident] tested Monday and Tuesday and both are positive, that’s two positives.”

That policy may serve to sharply drive up case numbers, which may in turn significantly delay the re-opening of the state. Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has stated that the state will begin its first phase of re-opening only when state officials have logged 14 straight days of declining case numbers and hospitalizations.

It would be naive to assume that this is only happening in blue Virginia.

Here’s the problem for the left. Americans, not blessed by uninterrupted paychecks, want to get back to work. Americans are tired of being told to stay at home for the sake of not sharing a virus no one can see and fear ramped up for the obvious benefit of a political party facing a presidential and down-ballot ass whuppin’ in less than six months.

Politicians and their media could give a rip about the economy and all those dependent on its success for daily survival. It’s all about beating President Trump and if they have to make shit up along the way, it’s not like they haven’t done this before.

It’s not hard to imagine how those in federal and state federal government can be so casual when it comes to their evolving time schedules as to when the nation will be fully open for business because it’s as simple as follow the money. They’re getting theirs thus there’s no sense of urgency, the “process” of politics can run it’s course because certain taxpayer-funded paychecks have been assured to come in uninterrupted.
