It’s been seven months of people quitting their jobs at near-record highs, and businesses are continuing to complain that they just can’t find workers to fill open roles. Many have termed it a labor shortage, although five decades of declining wages argue that it’s more of a wage shortage. Even the narrative that jobs are plentiful and for the taking is not quite right: There are certainly still people not getting hired because of the mismatch between the primarily low-wage roles hiring and workers’ qualifications.

Depending on where you get your “news”, you’ll hear a variety of explanations of why so many are electing not to return to the workplace. There’s also one very logical (and unmentioned) reason why so many are not going to go back: who would want to be immersed in an intolerant, politically-correct, woke space where it’s become praiseworthy, commonplace for some to try and cancel the hand that feeds you?

As far as Gen Z is concerned, it’s been their way or the highway on campus; so why should corporate life be any different? Unsurprisingly, Gen Z has rolled into the office place with demands. Bosses report employees asking for time off for period cramps or anxiety. They pressure their employers to take a stand on contentious social issues like BLM. And, if they don’t get their way, they’ll simply walk out. Workers in the previous generation — millennials — have served as a test case of how this mindset wreaks havoc on the workplace.

Most older experienced employees would just want to do their job and do it well, but they’d be surrounded by young know-it-alls who demand mental health days, demand others be considerate of their feelings when they insist on doing things wrong and the expected negative results subsequently happen.

Monster.com’s 2022 global report found “more than 9 out of 10 employers (nationally) say they are struggling to fill positions because of a skills gap, and 29% agree that the skills gap has increased compared to a year ago.” And it’s hurting the economy, nationally and locally.

Irrelevant issues like preferred pronouns and sexual preferences become dominate distractions that detracts from productivity and the lack of professionalism becomes something quite unattractive to anyone who just wants to do a job.

Call it a disruptor, but today’s younger woke employees have broken the normal employment cycle and you see it almost everywhere. Corporations that have long established a tradition of stability are tanking because the introduction of social issues, unrelated to their products, and have made them not worthy of their customers’ hard-earned dollars. We’re past the point of young people screwing up the business and older people can’t be paid enough to come in to clean things up.

Leaders should also consider the fact that this group has no desire to come back to work. Their main reasons for leaving are retirement and sickness, although the research shows that this started at least two years before the pandemic and wasn’t affected much by the pandemic itself.

Woke work environments have been around for more than the last two years.

One small upside of the coming “hurricane” is that a lot a companies will have the perfect excuse to purge the woke and once a good percentage are gone, mature employees may reenter the workplace to do the job they’re hired to do.

It takes ten years or so for the aforementioned cycle to be verified. Gen Z has sped up the professional assessment of their true “value”.

In a Dec. 2023 study, the New Jersey-based research group Intelligent surveyed 800 U.S. managers, directors and executives who are involved in hiring. The respondents reported that Gen Z candidates struggle to pick up professional cues, causing 39% of employers to favor hiring older candidates.

About 60% of employers said they are willing to offer more benefits and pay higher salaries to attract older workers rather than recent grads. For that same reason, 48% of employers are offering remote or hybrid positions to older employees and 46% are willing to hire overqualified candidates, according to the new study.

One in five employers reported that recent college grads are generally unprepared when it comes to interviewing for a job. More than half of employers surveyed said Gen Z candidates struggle the most with eye contact during interviews.

Candidates in this age group also ask for unreasonable salaries and have dressed inappropriately for in-person interviews, according to about half of the study respondents.

Even virtual interviews have posed issues, with 21% of employers reporting that some candidates refuse to turn on their cameras for the interview. Nearly 20% of employers said they’ve even had a recent college grad bring a parent to an interview.

Two in three employers reported that Gen Z employees are unable to manage their workloads, while about 60% said they are frequently late to work and often miss assignment deadlines.

Sixty-three percent of employers consider Gen Z employees to be entitled, while 58% said they get offended too easily and are overall unprepared for the workforce. Employers also noted that their youngest employees lack professionalism, do not respond well to feedback and have poor communication skills.

Almost half (47%) of employers in the survey said they’ve fired a recent college graduate.

It would’ve been an interesting conversation to have been had.

Blymire’s Tweet has been cut-and-pasted almost in its entirely in case it’s later removed due to the customary pile-on that can ensue after fragile egos are exposed.

Here is a hopefully short synopsis of something that happened this week that I still don’t understand.

In office space near a client, a young woman was meeting with her boss. She was (by my estimation) in her late 20s.

The boss (also a woman) was giving her feedback and reviewing edits she had made on something this young woman wrote.

They had been speaking in low tones, but their volume got louder toward the end of the conversation because the young woman was getting agitated about a particular edit.

That particular edit was correcting the spelling of “hampster” to “hamster”. Apparently she had used the phrase “like spinning in a hamster wheel” in this draft (presumably) speech or op-ed.

The young woman kept saying, “I don’t know why you corrected that because I spell it with the P in it.” The boss said (calmly), “But that’s not how the word is spelled. There is no P in hamster.”

Young woman: “But you don’t know that! I learned to spell it with a P in it so that’s how I spell it.”

The boss (remaining very calm and professional), let’s go to dictionary.com and look it up together.

(mind you, this is a woman in her late 20s, not a 5th grader)

The young woman insists she doesn’t need to look it up because it’s FINE to spell it with a P because that’s HOW SHE WANTED TO SPELL IT.

The boss says, “Let’s look over the rest of the piece so I can explain the rest of my edits.”

They do, and I can see the young woman is fighting back tears.

The boss is calm, cool, and handles this with professionalism and empathy.

Boss says, “I know edits can be difficult to go over sometimes, especially when you’re working on new kinds of things as you grow in your career, but it’s a necessary process and makes us all better at what we do.”

Boss gets up from table and goes to her office and the young woman can barely hold it together.

She moves to another table in the common workspace area, drops all her stuff loudly on the table top, and starts texting.

A minute later, her phone rings.

It was her mom. She had texted her mom to call her because it was urgent, and I’m sure her mother maybe thought she was in the ER or something.

She then … PUTS HER MOM ON SPEAKERPHONE. IN THE WORKPLACE.

She bursts into tears and wants her mom to call her boss and tell her not to be mean about telling her how to spell words like “hamster”.

The mother tells her that her boss is an idiot and she doesn’t have to listen to her and she should go to the boss’ boss to file a complaint about not allowing creativity in her writing.

The young woman kept saying, “I thought what I wrote was perfect and she just made all these changes and then had the nerve to tell me I was spelling words wrong when I know they are right because that is how I have always spelled them.”

She then went on (still on speakerphone) to tell her mom I’m very great and office-inappropriate detail about how hungover she was and what she and her friends did with some guys the night before. Mom laughed and laughed.

The colleagues in and around the workplace kept looking at one another and some even put earbuds/headphones in/on. It appeared as though this was a regular thing with her.

She ended the conversation asking her mom how she should bring this up with the boss’ boss. “I mean, I always spell hamster with a P, she has no right to criticize me.”

She walked to the office kitchen for the rest of the call so I don’t know what happened next.

But I don’t know what her situation is/was. Based on the way her mom spoke to her and they way they spoke to one another, it seemed as though his young woman had never been told she was anything but perfect by family.

I think I was most perplexed by the insistence of wanting to spell something the way she wanted to because SHE WANTED TO, ignoring the fact that there are rules and dictionaries.

And seeming offended that anyone would suggest the use of an outside resource as reference.

But it seemed more like someone who has never been told no, or that she is anything other than 100% perfect and amazing and can do no wrong. And that is going to be exhausting for anyone in her orbit.

Sounds like this 20-something may end up being a congresswoman…

… if you know what I mean.

But it doesn’t matter where we look: the workplace, the media, think tanks, even in the upper echelons of the government: The Children are now setting the agenda and we’re all going to reap the disaster helicopter parents enabled to come down on all of us.

Joel Pavelski, 27, isn’t the first person who has lied to his boss to scam some time off work. But inventing a friend’s funeral, when in fact he was building a treehouse — then blogging and tweeting about it to be sure everyone at the office noticed? That feels new.

Such was a recent management challenge at Mic, a five-year-old website in New York that is vying to become a leading news source created by and for millennials. Recent headlines include “Don’t Ban Muslims, Ban Hoverboards” and “When Men Draw Vaginas.”

“There’s 80 million millennials; we focus on the 40 that went to college,” said Chris Altchek, Mic’s 28-year-old chief executive. But he is still working out how to manage many of the traits associated with his fellow millennials: a sense of entitlement, a tendency to overshare on social media, and frankness verging on insubordination.

Welcome to the THEIR world where immaturity+arrogance=power.

What’s even worse are those on the left who mostly indoctrinated them (via academia, entertainment or activist nonprofits) and are now empowering them to transform the American way of life into something more comfortable for their proteges; a concept they still can’t master in environments they control (like the college campus) and they’re blaming their overall mental health misery on everyone but themselves.

The insidious are using them because it’s easy to dupe the ignorant and/or intellectually lazy.

Whether it’s Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez or the millennials who are turning our places of employment into their socially-conscious safe spaces where they’re dictating the terms, there will soon be a point where the American people will either succumb to their self-centered demands or tell these children that it is up to them to adapt to a world that made their lives pretty easy (compared to generations before them) and appreciate what they are quickly and efficiently destroying.

Too many uninformed conservatives (who have the ear of our candidates because they donate to them) believe millennials should be running our campaigns because they have ‘less responsibilities’ and can devote more time to what has to be done on the ground. Not sure where that wisdom came from but it’s too bad the consistent bad results aren’t the massive red flag they should be.

Arrogance, condescension and a group of North Carolina political operative millennials whose only real accomplishments are separating Republicans from their wallets.

Campaign millennials locate marks, demand and are paid top dollar despite actual accomplishments.

These companies, despite a record of achievement, have successfully gotten a stranglehold in Virginia Republican politics and maybe even got Corey Stewart to part with a generous lump sum from a previously, well-earned warchest to feed the millennial losers.

Another Cruzer who sucked money out of Stewart’s campaign was a so-called “social media marketing” company with a very unremarkable website. Again, despite a prior track record of success, it (he?) was paid consistently.

Corey Stewart ran Donald Trump’s Virginia apparatus so we all know where he’s coming from. With that, why would he become associated with ANYONE associated with the very same Ted Cruz campaign that tried to steal Trump delegates in Virginia?

In August, U.S. Army veteran Spence Rogers sold his house in Tampa, Florida and bought an RV, and set off with his wife and three children for a cross-country adventure. Rogers, his family and the RV ended up in Iowa — a state he had never before visited — and instead of sightseeing, he signed on to be Cruz’s deputy director for Iowa.

Prior to Stewart’s gubernatorial run, Bob personally sat down with Corey. It ended with him saying he wanted Bob to work on his campaign. However in a subsequent phone call, Rogers didn’t seem to want him on the campaign, said he already had people shooting video with their “tablets” and iphones, and the directive of the candidate was never observed. The pattern of condescension from self-important millennials, despite an ROI of accomplishment is a cancer conservatives need to starting purging.

Stewart’s campaign was managed by Spence Rogers whose outfit, Grow To Win, collected $73,600 for his services. The Stewart campaign used Rick Shaftan’s Atlantic Media and Research for their TV and radio buys, spending $217,631 in the losing effort.

Stephen Lonegan aide Rick Shaftan was fired after an explicit tirade to Talking Points Memo about Mr Booker’s unwillingness to ‘take advantage of the perks of office’ during interaction the Newark mayor had with a vegan from Oregon, concluding he tweets like ‘a gay guy.’

Granted, Shaftan is older but has set the bad example and should have never been considered for races of monumental importance.

Fritsch made a series of controversial social media posts that drew negative attention to Stewart’s campaign. Another Stewart campaign aide, Rick Shaftan, has a history of social media posts that includes calling the NAACP a “more violent” version of the KKK and saying only a “fool” would start a business in a black neighborhood.

Why anyone who supported Ted Cruz, especially when he and Ken Cuccinelli were trying to steal Donald Trump’s well-earned delegates, would be hired by staunch Trump conservative candidates is beyond logic.

And too many of the people absorbed into their campaigns in paid positions are more about flaunting themselves and instead of updating supporters on the state of the campaigns, are more about posting Facebook live videos of themselves going from one event to another and producing amateurish vertical videos for what are, in some cases, multi-million dollar national campaigns.

We’ve since had negative dealings with some of these people and we’d hope that any Virginia Republican in the future really take a look at their track record before cutting checks to any of these rude, condescending punks. Did we say we had negative dealings with some of them?

In sports, any team in rebuilding mode seeks personnel with a winning record. Very, very few teams hire coaches who can’t point to recent winning accomplishments, but in the world of politics our candidates are given poor advice as to who to hire and end up with consistent losers at the helm.

Here’s yet ANOTHER example.

How often do you see Democrat campaign “consultants” make it all about them during the campaign?

It could be argued that had these “Team Arpaio” consultants spent more time promoting the candidate instead of themselves, the outcome may have been different.

Many of us remember, before places of employment were transformed into millennial safe spaces, a time when younger workers would sit and listen during conservations in the workplace. It was because older employees were experienced and the youngsters thus had little of value to offer that conversation. But today, we’re told to value them despite their lack of experience and the results permeate throughout society, including our political campaigns.

Like so many other examples we’ve documented, until conservative Republicans learn to vet those they elevate and pay, we’ll continue to look the fool after losing another winnable election cycle.

As one millennial posted above, “rich people are often stupid. As an indicator valuable.” – and there’s no shortage of millennials who are clamouring to take their money.

Let’s stop losing important elections that affect our daily lives and freeze out political predator opportunists.

But it’s past the point where their self-absorption and lack of maturity is no longer a surprise, no matter where they decide to act out.

Sources tell Fox News the woman in question is 21-year-old Caitlin Marriott, who is interning in the office of Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H. Fox News is told she has not been terminated and will continue to work there through August.

Aside from the lack of decorum that would’ve been enough to have us banished for publicly embarrassing our families back-in-the-day, the fact it was applauded by the under-30’s in today’s “media” is even more evidence of how they don’t deserve the pitards they’ve been hoisted upon.

Yelling fuck you to the president isn’t exactly novel; it happens a million times a day online. But there was something different about this one, not only because it reportedly came from a congressional intern, but because it was said directly to him. It’s unclear if the president heard the insult, and even if he did, whether the wet rats who pull the steampunk levers in his desiccated brain would have processed it anyway. But it was a sorely needed message delivered directly.

Whether we’re talking about a Reality Winner or this “intern”, millennials are consistently showing they have questionable maturity, integrity and many don’t deserve to be in some of the important positions they currently hold.

One of the activists who chased Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen out of a Mexican restaurant Tuesday night over the Trump administration’s immigration policies is an employee of the Department of Justice. The Washington Examiner spoke with Alison Hrabar Wednesday and she defended her behavior as off government time and a use of her First Amendment rights.

Despite Hrabar’s claims of keeping her personal politics outside of her time as an employee of the federal government, a look at her Twitter account, @allisongeroi, features tweets during the workday openly celebrating her behavior Tuesday night.

“Keeping families together in jail is not an acceptable solution,” Hrabar tweeted Wednesday afternoon at 1:56 PM.

Yes, there is a First Amendment, being a rude jerk is not illegal, but enough of what we used to take for granted as civilized behavior has been thrown out the window and rewritten by the youthful, all-about-ME-ME-ME typo-prone.

The incidence of narcissistic personality disorder is nearly three times as high for people in their 20s as for the generation that’s now 65 or older, according to the National Institutes of Health; 58% more college students scored higher on a narcissism scale in 2009 than in 1982. Millennials got so many participation trophies growing up that a recent study showed that 40% believe they should be promoted every two years, regardless of performance. They are fame-obsessed: three times as many middle school girls want to grow up to be a personal assistant to a famous person as want to be a Senator, according to a 2007 survey; four times as many would pick the assistant job over CEO of a major corporation. Their development is stunted: more people ages 18 to 29 live with their parents than with a spouse, according to the 2012 Clark University Poll of Emerging Adults. And they are lazy. In 1992, the nonprofit Families and Work Institute reported that 80% of people under 23 wanted to one day have a job with greater responsibility; 10 years later, only 60% did.

There will soon come a time when hiring a millennial may be a risky proposition. Will someone within a company want to be called on the carpet by his or her boss and have to explain the actions of an immature person whose employment they greenlighted? While we just went to work and did our jobs, many accommodations have been made to make life less stressful for the millennial and the return on investment is questionable at best.

Should we ever be in the position to start hiring, bringing on someone in this problematic demographic would not be in our best interest.

Margaret McLaughlin, another activist who protested Nielsen, said that “as long as the Trump administration is going to separate families at the border and bust unions and put more and more people at danger — all kinds of people — we are going to continue to fight.”

“The people that are responsible for these policies should not be able to live in peace,” McLaughlin said.

Caitlin Marriott, like many others, has managed to land softly after her public outburst.

To make matters worse, the template of superficiality has permeated down to the next generation of so-called “conservative” leaders whose main goal is not to be a living, breathing example of our values but self-promoting provocateurs who go to hostile college campuses: not to share and defend those values but to be video-recorded being met with the expected mayhem for viral social media product and the possibility of the Holy Grail: a segment on Fox News for more self-adulation.

While being given prominent places on the 2018 stage, millennials like Tomi Lahren, Candice Owens, Ben Shapiro and Charlie Kirk have been knighted the new stars of the movement despite limited life experience and even worse, dubious support for the Republican Party and our president. They are arrogantly honest, albeit of questionable intelligence, and being able to prance from college into a prominent nonprofit gig hasn’t hurt them.

We have Austin Petersen, who ran for president under the Libertarian party, who is a total Never Trumper. We have Ben Shapiro, who is like the leading Never Trump voice, we have libertarian speakers such as Dave Rubin. We want big names, people that draw attention, and you know what? There’s going to be a lot of contradictory statements. We’re cool with that. There’s going to be Alex Epstein in a shirt that says ‘I love fossil fuels’ and we’re going to have speakers talking about how conservatives should better embrace the idea of climate change. It shows that we as Turning Point we embrace conservatives, libertarians, people in the middle.

Former employees say that they were directed to work with prominent conservatives, including the wife of the Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, in aid of Republican Presidential candidates in 2016. Perhaps most troubling for an organization that holds up conservatives as the real victims of discrimination in America, Turning Point USA is also alleged to have fostered an atmosphere that is hostile to minorities. Screenshots provided to me by a source show that Crystal Clanton, who served until last summer as the group’s national field director, sent a text message to another Turning Point employee saying, “i hate black people. Like fuck them all . . . I hate blacks. End of story.“

Charlie Kirk urgently needed a damage-control black face, found a more-than-willing and ready one from the ghetto of Stamford, Connecticut.

Kirk also has a history of unforced, clumsy remarks.

Kirk grew up in Wheeling, Illinois, and was an Eagle Scout; in a 2015 speech to the Conservative Forum of Silicon Valley, he said that his “No. 1 dream in life” was to attend West Point, but the slot he considered his went to “a far less-qualified candidate of a different gender and a different persuasion” whose test scores he claimed he knew. (Kirk said he was being sarcastic when he made the comment.) Kirk acknowledged in an interview that it is something of an irony that he heads an organization devoted to waging political warfare on campuses when he never actually attended college himself. “I joke that I wasn’t smart enough to go to a four-year school,” Kirk told me, although he noted that he continued his studies at a community college.

As many of these “woke” millennials were either still in high school or early in the college years, there was a time when the Paulies were considered a virus trying to infect the Republican Party.

They were all about infiltration and the forced integration of their libertarian views: views they’ve now re-branded as “conservatarian” and we all know liberals constantly re-brand to fool their opponents.

From what I can see the fault lines are that they disagree with libertarians on immigration, foreign policy, and sometimes abortion. And they disagree with traditional conservatives on federalism, on gay marriage, and on drugs.

The sad thing is too many conservatives don’t dig into the background of cash vacuums who create nothing, are declared “brilliant” to the uniformed for saying things NEVER said before [sarc], while concealing their true self-serving political motivations.

What’s sad, again, is how quickly conservatives embrace race-victim infiltrators (see: Stacey Dash, Joy Villa) without the minimum of vetting.

So we have CPAC throwing at us well-funded #NeverTrumpers (thanks, Foster Friess) who have yet to own up and formally apologize for the inter-party interference they caused in 2016, and those narcissistic “edgy” millennials who spend more time on social media touting how they “destroyed” this person or “blew up” Twitter; not because they said anything really new but because they say they did.

And in yet another astonishing bit of ironic narcissism on display, Shapiro issued the following ironic gem with regards to the “student” movement that arose following the Parkland shooting.

Shapiro comes off as a petulant child to many of us so his words almost come off as a punchline.

That means he was in diapers when some of us were initially pushing back against the Clinton machine and agenda at a time when there was no such thing as a blog or a consumer-ready Internet to distribute thin musings on a moments notice. He is only where he is today because of those who fought, and in some cases, lost much to create forums like those he exploits for personal attention today.

Nothing like having a “talk radio” program, pre-recorded so he can pontificate while not having to lower himself and engage with actual listeners.

Heaping attention and praise upon the modesty-challenged is a reflection on their lack of self-discipline mixed with that delusion of grandeur.

BTW, for those who donate to Turning Point USA, room rates at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. range from $364 to $945 per night. Wanna bet he stays in a “suite” that runs from $945 to $4,429 per night? Of course, that doesn’t include food and all the other expenses involved with luxury travel but who cares; it’s not HIS money.

The one thing all of these millennial usurpers have in common? They want fame, fortune, demand access, attention, our support and money while looking down upon us and strategically redefining “conservative principles”.

How long does it takes for those with the resources to finally start catching up and vet those who want (not earned)to be stars? Don’t count on the right. We’re truly beginning to question the ability of conservatives in the “media” to actually do their job while acquiescing real reporting, albeit late, to the left.

Even by the whiplash-inducing standards of Trumpworld, Candace Owens’ rise has been fast. In November, amid allegations of racial bias, the conservative campus advocacy group Turning Point USA hired Owens, who is black, as its director of urban engagement.

Owens, suddenly a new face of the American right, was less than two years ago the CEO of an online publication that frequently mocked then-candidate Trump, including conducting a mock “investigation” into his penis size. (The story determined that it was likely very small.) And in a 2015 column for the site lambasting conservative Republicans, Owens wrote that it was “good news” that the “Republican Tea Party … will eventually die off (peacefully in their sleep, we hope).”

How long have we been putting that out there to conservative crickets or arrogant denial?

Indeed, the speed with which Owens has gone from running a frequently anti-Trump, anti-conservative website to being one of the president’s most prominent new supporters illustrates the wild land grab still going on for influence in the pro-Trump ecosystem.

Most of Owens’ writing for Degree180 was not political. Much of it was personal, including essays about her struggle with anorexia, inspirational exhortations, a fierce essay titled “Fuck Girl Code: I Can Hook Up With Your Ex-Boyfriend If I Want,” and advice about how to get prescription stimulants “without so much as a doctor’s evaluation.” (The site seems to have stopped publishing new material in December 2016.)

Granted, we’re not the greatest fans of BuzzFeed, but this was not an exercise in Pulitzer-level digging. It’s just too many on the right could be bothered to look, let alone even know where.

But when it comes to anything involving the left, enough is never enough. It wasn’t enough that convenient speech was limited to the campus. Too many bad things were happening in the real America that could no longer be tolerated. The safe space needed to be expanded, despite the guarantees afforded the rest of the population by the First Amendment.

A population normally doesn’t succumb like a bunch of pussies.

The easily-triggered snowflake millennials (led by scraggly-hair oldhead liberal professors directing safely behind the scenes) have taken to the streets and way too many are succumbing to the bullying tactics of cowards hiding behind black masks, loud-mouthed screechy young women who dare to be physically assaulted while throwing punches, and are now dictating what free speech they alone will authorize.

They’ve managed to alter municipal laws so they can legally impede the movement and speech of others with little fear of civil ramifications. They don’t need permits to assemble and commit acts of vandalism or worse. They can demand anything they deem offensive removed from theaters, book shelves, on television and/or online.

They can label those they disagree with adjectives that result in loss of income, if not livelihoods and do so with impunity.

It’s also arguable that many of these supposedly-educated “anti-fascists” are not all that bright.

As evidenced by their social media presentations, very few of these millennials are capable of living independently. Many create videos from their parents’ homes, probably aren’t working thus have way too much time on their idle hands and even more would have a case demanding a refund of tuition money for an education that just didn’t stick. But now, we’ve allowed these young punks to take over the relative order of civil society and turn it into their irrational safe space, ramped-up because half of the population were racist and intolerant enough to vote into office a president THEY didn’t want.

Those voters, and the like-minded, are now fair game for violent retribution by hordes of spoiled children hiding behind bandanas to conceal their identities as there is that remote possibility of being thrown out of their rooms by fed up parents who may or may not bail them out if arrested.

It will be interesting to see what happens if the snowflakes attempt a takeover in a city run by those who aren’t in fear of offending politically correct fascists. That could be fun video indeed, especially when the crying snowflakes are given a taste of reality; a concept denied them in liberal academia and now oozing into the real world.

Instead of a civil war, maybe a long overdue, mass spanking is in order.

I was turned on to Emerson, Lake & Palmer in the mid-70s. As a former drummer-turned-percussionist, I was in awe of drummer Carl Palmer, but the group as a whole was nothing but pure genius. (BTW – Despite six platinum-selling albums, including 1973’s Brain Salad Surgery, ELP STILL is not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.)

In the late 70’s I was a stagehand at Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and because of my attending a rival high school, got the opportunity to meet and strike up a friendship with legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein who also told me the correct pronunciation of his name: “Have you ever heard of a Steen-way piano?” He told me how, back in the day, he played piano with Billie Holiday for $10 a night and it was then I discovered that many conductors are also virtuoso pianists.

Subsequently, I asked Mr. Bernstein who his favorite keyboardist was and he said without hesitation, “Keith Emerson. He’s a genius.” While Edgar Winter was credited in making the synthesizer a recognized rock ‘n’ roll instrument, Keith Emerson took it several levels higher and set the standard.

Shortly after the ELP “Brain Salad Surgery” release, my best friend and I saw them perform at the old Boston Garden and I was even more impressed by the musicianship that almost fully translated from the album to live performance. Seriously, how many keyboardists play several parts AND the bass on foot pedals simultaneously live? Think about it….

It was quite sad to find that in the later years of his life, Keith Emerson was being dogged by the anonymous cowards on social media, who were criticizing his performances in ignorance.

His right hand and arm had given him problems for years. He had an operation a few years ago to take out a bad muscle but the pain and nerve issues in his right hand were getting worse. He had concerts coming up in Japan and even though they hired a back-up keyboard player to support him, Keith was worried. He read all the criticism online and was a sensitive soul. Last year he played concerts and people posted mean comments such as, ‘I wish he would stop playing.’

ALL musicians are ultimate victims of age. Singers transpose their hits down a step or two because they can’t hit the notes they could when they were in their 20’s and 30’s. If you listen to the speed and accuracy of Keith Emerson back in the 70’s and 80’s, one could easily understand how age could affect his performances in his 60’s and beyond, but that was no reason to bully (using the verbiage of today’s social media “victims”) him to the point of suicide.

He was tormented with worry that he wouldn’t be good enough. He was planning to retire after Japan. He didn’t want to let down his fans. He was a perfectionist and the thought he wouldn’t play perfectly made him depressed, nervous and anxious.

In the age of autotune and sampling, Keith Emerson was a great musician who on his worst day could blow away some of today’s “artists” and for cowardly, no-talent punks to troll him to the point where he felt the need to abandon all is one of the great tragedies.
