Before you start naming off the obvious, let’s put this into perspective.

There are many black conservatives who’ve worked, more of less, behind the scenes to promote Republican values. Very few have been formally embraced by the Republican Party because many of us were at it long before the prominence of social media. It was more about the mission of pushing back against the kneejerk all-Republicans-are-racist narrative. We appeared in hostile environments, took on controversial issues, and at times our messaging was much more informative and engaging than your average wonk.

CNN only invite black conservatives on their broadcasts when we speak out of turn, have to be questioned as to our sanity, and ridiculed once the segments end. We are the Fox News backstop against unfounded or made up accusations against the movement and/or the party. We do it more for love of the concept of conservatism that the Republican Party itself.

In many respects, we outperform the party when it comes to the means of creating messages and the fat-and-happy entrenched are naturally threatened by those who do it better.

For example, I dare you to find ONE speaker who so effortlessly and fearlessly explained conservative opposition to gay marriage when the topic was white hot or since….

This was not issued in the mocking, self-promoting tone many of today’s younger mouthpieces would. There were no Facebook likes and Twitter follows to be gained when Alan Keyes spoke in Boston. This wasn’t streamed online. It couldn’t be shared by the hundreds of thousands as to create a back-patting metric that excites today’s nonprofits and cable news interests.

The older group of black conservative activists I knew/know were comfortable with our individual methods of reach. Hardly any of us got rich off our activism but if we could speak somewhere and later be surrounded by a room full of students who never heard black people speaking the way we did and just had to hear more, that’s all we needed to keep us going. We never lied to anyone about who we are, how we got here, and where we wanted to go. All that’s off the table now, as in any movement, there are those who are there more for themselves than the movement.

Unlike “Good Trubah”, there will be no CNN Films documentaries honoring Lloyd, Harry or Herman. At least Mr. Cain got an R.I.P. mention on Fox News and some talk radio shows, once. And as many times as we physically stuck our necks out for the cause, I foresee no formal honors on the conservative side for any of us when our times come and I think we’re okay with that.

Allan, Zo, Star, Alan, Erik, Mychal, Anita, Alveda, Jesse Lee, Larry, Charles, David, Niger, Lynn, C.L., William, and my other black conservative acquaintances will be remembered for more than opening a door. We did it at a time where there was no real market for our sincere points-of-view and there was nothing really to personally gain. We did it because it needed to be done and we had to be damn good at it.

We made memes, sent out Tweets and Facebook posts, tagging President Trump, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Larry O’Connor, Chris Plante, Dennis Prager, Fox News; everyone who gushed over and pushed Candace Owens in our faces, praising her bravery and “brilliance” (which were just repackaged social media postings of words said by others long before she was aware). But again, because she appeared on Fox News, was universally praised on talk radio, certified and promoted by CPAC, that’s all she needed to use conservatives and pursue her self-serving goals.

The validation was when she came right out and admitted, under oath, she was a Democrat after lying to conservatives that she’d changed her party registration to Republican months prior.

For some reason, this STILL got by our conservative intelligentsia.

Candace Owens is laughing at you and has been for quite awhile.

Not us, but all those we come to for information and so-called “leadership”. NO conservative websites questioned her motivations, just as they allowed Stacey Dash to embarrass us nationally and helped Joy Villa walk right into President Trump’s inner circle.

What’s sad is too many know how to infiltrate and use conservatives. The biggest problem is that those who have the luxury of disseminating information to conservatives is that they are lazy, and when reasonable doubt is presented, they blow it off. When proven wrong, they they’re too arrogant to admit it.

Fox News never apologized for imposing Stacey Dash or Joy Villa on us. Conservative “leaders” will act all shocked at Candace Owens’ back stab, but they were warned.

Now, will the “powers that be” FINALLY look into and run Charlie Kirk out of the conservative column? We did our research.

Will they…?

Especially when, AGAIN, conservatives fail to properly vet those they foist in front of us as champions of the cause.

On the January 8th episode of Fox Nation’s “Reality Check”, Candace Owens claims to have registered as a Republican before the 2018 midterm election. However, later during the April 9th House Judiciary Hearing on “Hate Crimes and the Rise of White Nationalism”, Owens said something entirely different… under oath.

Either Candace Owens lied to all conservatives on Fox News and told the truth under oath to Congress, OR she told the truth to David Webb and lied to Congress. Obviously the former as the possible ramifications are much more severe deliberately misleading a House committee.

Further propping herself up to blind, worshiping supporters on the right was an easier call.

As much as it’s nice to have a number of people who “like” your presence on Facebook, let’s be real. Out of the dozens or hundreds or more of people who are your “friends”, how many do you really know personally? How many did you know and hang out with years ago? Just a wild guess, I’d say that number is less than five percent. Ironically, the more popular you are on Facebook, that percentage goes down.

We have no control over who our social media “friends” really are. Their profiles, unless you really want to take the time to truly vet every single person who sends you a request, can be real or a fiction. As you’ve not had personal interaction with them, you don’t know if that’s someone you’d really want to be around or not, yet by accepting a friendship with them, you’re now associated with their words and activities, good or bad.

And there’s the superficial.

For example, way too many conservative men will be enamoured and will defend those women who call themselves “conservative” solely on the only thing presented: physical appearance first. We’ve seen many examples of female newcomers to the conservative movement with questionable, if not hostile, backgrounds being embraced mostly by conservative males who dismiss any vetting of the desired only because of the subjective “hotness” of that female. When their true motivations are exposed, they dissolve into online obscurity only after they’ve personally profited and the credibility of conservatives again become a laughstock to our political opponents.

Bang For the Buck

Many organizations have budgets allocated exclusively for Facebook promotion that will hopefully bring eyes to their websites. Facebook, depending on the amount of people who see a post, will ask if you’d like to give them money to “boost” said post.

There are many tech experts who’ve written exhaustive articles on just how to get people to actually go to a link on a Facebook or Twitter post. Almost all are in agreement that the vast majority of consumers read only what’s on the Facebook and Twitter post and very seldom click on a link (approximately 3%). Despite hundreds of hours taken to promote posts on this site, the most recent numbers verify their conclusions.

As of 9/10/18 around 11:30am in this very piece shared on Facebook, out of 193 people who saw it…

… only fifteen clicked on this link; a .077 percentage clearly in the waste-of-time category. The same probably goes for the dozens of memes, posts and Tweets with links to our page. Unlike others, we’re not stupid enough to pay Facebook to “boost”.

Then again, Facebook and Twitter gets all the activity, mines your topics, sends that information to their client advertisers and we get bombarded with the content they paid for.

Getting Personal

There was a time before Facebook when a man would have the enjoyment of planning a special day for the woman in his life. He could plot, plan and at the end of the day, have a nice evening out with her.

But how many men today have that cloud hanging over them: if they don’t stay up until 11:59 the night before a special day and be the FIRST to post a message on Facebook… not good.

Of course, that’s not important to most women but it’s now an issue that can have dire consequences; even if you did buy flowers or take her out to a nice restaurant, if you didn’t post your acknowledgement on Facebook FIRST, there’s something wrong.

All this because of the social media pressures of sending a message to (again) dozens or more people you’ve never personally met.

Held Hostage

The beauty of owning your own website is that you can post whatever you want, whenever you want from wherever. You are not subject to arbitrary “community guidelines” thus are subject to the objections of our political opponents which can result in shadow-banning or worse.

Think about the hundreds of hours invested in social media pushback that can be erased after being flagged by an anonymous butthurt, acted upon by a like-minded employee “monitor” at Twitter or Facebook, which can result in punitive measures including having your account deleted. Sadly, not everyone can afford or wants the headache of updating their own website and the social media gatekeepers know this as well, so you have to tread very carefully to exercise your First Amendment right on a private company’s platform where speech IS regulated at the personal whim of whomever is tasked with surveillance and enforcement.

And we all know how conservatives are fairly approached….

Artificial Importance

How many very successful businesses have had to alter their models and issue very public responses because of an outcry on social media? We see and heard news reports of “millions” of Tweets and hashtags created to exert pressure on a company because of something “trending”.

We had a restaurant in Washington, D.C., in an attempt to protect female patrons using their restrooms, take a major hit because of a transexual who claimed to have “hundreds of thousands” of “followers” objected and received media coverage. Did this person really have the backing of so many people who utilized the simple convenience of clicking on a “like” button on a post claiming victim status? Out of those “hundreds of thousands” of followers, how many real friends does this person have? A couple dozen or more?

We’ve seen CEOs from very successful companies have to step down because of personal political activities that inflamed certain groups; activities that had zero effect on the product used. All because of a pushback by many on social media that involved nothing but a click on a mouse.

We’ve seen issues blown up to international prominence in social media; issues based on an incorrect premise (see #Kony2012). Seeing how too many people don’t take the time to read beyond, it’s way to easy for an ignorant mob to be whipped up into a frenzy over something that never happened.

We continue to see others propped up as megastars, going back to Kim Kardashian; not because she did anything of real value, but merely because she exists and can successfully promote herself and family members with pictures on social media. We see others who’ve done nothing of real value (outside of talk), given a platform in the broadcast media because of a social media following of thousands who’ve never met them personally. In too many cases, it’s again their profile of selective imagery that has was too many swooning, like male congressional candidates and “pundits” who’ve achieved little politically but women on Facebook come right out and comment on his “hotness”.

Do You Really NEED Facebook and Twitter?

Don’t get me wrong. Facebook and Twitter is a convenient way to keep in touch with personal friends and family members as to your activities; something that was routinely done by email and/or a phone call. Would all communication cease if you couldn’t upload some photos and include the whereabouts? Obviously not, but also Facebook and Google now knows where you were and you now get notifications from restaurants and other places to frequent.

While many would argue that social media is a valuable promotional tool that leads to wonderful results, the results that lead to wild success are few and far between. But what do we really get out of it.

Aside from meeting my wonderful wife on Facebook, we really haven’t gotten a significant bang for the many hours spent promoting content on this website. Despite the many “offers” of interest and “exposure”, the last real job I had came as a result of physical content created; not a result of the amount of social media presence “likes” and “followers”.

And it came via email.

Laura once told me time is the most important thing we have in life is time because we never get it back.

Facebook and Twitter knows how many hours we’ve all given to them and if you were to see that number, would you really think it was worth it?

Dirty Little Secret

Have you noticed you never see any reference to social media in certain movie genres?

Obviously in a post-apocalyptic world with few resources, the Internet is non-existent meaning a lot of millennials wouldn’t last long. After all, how could they make a fire without a YouTube video cheatsheet?

Or maybe in science fiction fantasy, humans grew out of the need for instant gratification through that intoxicating quest for… likes.

Yes, we can officially confirm that our beloved Republican Tea Party is being led by the Mad Hatter and us millennials have been thrust into their wonderland. The good news is, they will eventually die off (peacefully in their sleep, we hope), and then we can get right on with the OBVIOUS social change that needs to happen, IMMEDIATELY. So what can expect to happen when that last tea-party coffin is sealed?

For those with a proper frame of reference, liberals during the Iraq War complained that the Bush Administration had no “exit strategy”. With that, Candace Owens and Charlie Kirk have done what way too many uninspired millennials do.

Co-opt something without attribution and make it their own: in this case, the “#WalkAway” campaign.

Two months ago, Brandon Straka was a New York hair stylist with $300 in his savings account and a struggling side job as a performance artist. Now, thanks to his starring role in a video telling Democrats to ditch their party, he’s the head of a movement that’s been embraced by a wide swathe of the pro-Trump internet and earned him shout-outs from some of conservative media’s biggest names.

It’s exactly the kind of conversion narrative primed to go viral on the right. Straka’s video has earned nearly 2 million views on Facebook and YouTube, and scored him shout-outs from the likes of Fox News host Charles Payne, Trump superfan Bill Mitchell, Turning Point USA head Charlie Kirk, and Candace Owens, Kanye West’s guide to the right-wing internet.

While Brandon Straka found yet another way of saying things that black conservatives have said and were vilified for decades ago, he created a hashtag which today is all that’s required for that instant stamp of relevance.

Originality-challenged Owens and Kirk are now instructing black people to leave the Democrat Party under that co-opted #WalkAway hashtag, however they’ve been very careful as to not articulate just where they’d want them to go.

Many black conservatives escaped the liberal Democrat plantation for different reasons but most did so after realizing conservative principles were superior to the liberal. We embraced the Constitution as it was brilliantly written; not see it as a document flawed in its application today and in need of specific updates. We understood that government dependence was a strategic trap set by Democrats and self-reliance was the key to personal and professional upward mobility.

We’ve heard little of this from Owens on her numerous cable news appearances; only that there is a need to wake up black people, she has the alarm clock, and has presented herself as a genius by (again) repackaging the brilliance of others as her own.

Again, where would Candace Owens have these new woke black people go? Details.

Good thing she didn’t lead the Underground Railroad as they kinda’ needed a Point B.

As many blindly jump onboard any trending social media creation, are they really cognizant and appreciative of conservative principles if they come aboard the Republican ship or will Owens and Kirk take this new bloc and attempt to divide us from within and steer the Party in a direction at odds with those principles?

Or as self-described “community organizer” will Charlie Kirk use the organizations he’s already infiltrated to push his “conservatarian” platform which includes many concepts again at odds with conservative principles we currently try and adhere to?

Will these new “woke” black defectors from the Democrat Party see not enough handouts from either party be lured into the Bernie Sanders wing where way too many “free” shiny objects are being promised?

Whether Candace Owens was smart enough to have thought this through is debatable, but we should all take a few minutes and ask ourselves as a currently, fairly functional ideology, in the name of “inclusion” and embrace of the very identity politics we claim to abhor, do we really want people who may not share our core values being thrust into our midst by egotistical children who consider us pests stopping them from getting their way.

Why was that?

Okay, given the times it probably would’ve put an even bigger bullseye on the back of his head, but even today black conservatives are little more than showpieces to prove racial inclusion within the Republican Party.

There are many blacks today, experienced and scarred by the left, who are more than qualified to be “leaders”, that is, if they believe black people need to be led; a sentiment of internal debate to this day.

Sadly, some white conservatives are still bent on elevating those THEY deem worthy to lead us, without even the courtesy of asking.

For example….

Black Females with ZERO Conservative Credibility

The conservative movement leadership seemingly drooled over Stacey Dash all because she appeared in a bathing suit. She had zero background in conservatism or Republican politics at all but that didn’t seem to matter. All it took was one Tweet and she became a “leader”.

Because she was black and relatively young, the door was swung wide open despite the fact she would ultimately allow herself to be a joke on national television… as a Republican.

Then there was Joy Villa who told hundreds of thousands of gullible supporters she voted for Donald Trump even though she was a Bernie Sanders supporter who clearly had disdain for both of the two viable 2016 presidential candidates on Election Day.

As she was going nowhere in her questionable “career”, Joy knew all it took to get the attention of shallow, clueless conservatives.

Conservative women were (and are still to this day) seal-clapping “the dress” and conservative men gushed on her “hotness”. With the irresponsible elevation by Fox News and so-called conservative “leaders”, she made it deep into the Trump inner circle.

Once a spankin’ Joy Villa tried to pull a #MeToo on a Trump loyalist, she was discarded like old Fox News as if she never existed… at least for a short while.

This appears to be how Fox News issues retractions when they actively promote frauds on their audience who fall down hard.

One would think with the hundreds of thousands of dollars Fox News alone puts into “researchers”, they’d be competent and not set up the conservative movement with publicity-seeking leeches. It’s also sad that the Trump Administration relies on those who’re supposed to be vetting as the wrong people are slithering in and leaving their stink on his staff and family.

One would also think they’d learn their lesson after being burnt twice.

But, no….

Now, we have a woman who’s just enjoyed her one-year anniversary as a conservative being given center stage to single-handedly free Democrat slaves from the plantation, and she never had any use for conservatives until she could access their money.

The ONLY reason most even know Candace Owens exists is because her latest boss, Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA, had a little bit of a public relations issue when several of his young employees posted racist Tweets. In an effort to prove he wasn’t a racist and keep those nonprofit donations coming in, he hired a black face and sicced her loose on social media, reciting with authority things that have been already been said by many much wiser and lost much for saying them.

Here’s only some of what her white conservative admirers DON’T KNOW, as again they were too lazy to vet, accepted her as credible only because she’s all over Fox News, and will ignore her past once presented to avoid admitting they were duped… again.

When Candace Owens implodes, and she will, conservatives who embraced her will later act like they never knew her or feign ignorance as to her nefarious and anti-Republican musings.

Owens does appear have recurring meldings of those who disagree with her and death….

How many conservatives have fought against the notion of the Constitution being this “living document” that can changed to accommodate today’s social debauchery, yet Candace Owens was one of those frame of reference-challenged millennials who believed it must evolve because she said so. Also, Owens didn’t think much of candidate Donald Trump, but as he can now do great things for her, the tune has been conveniently changed.

But none of this matters because, again, condescending white conservatives are too arrogant to admit to the fact they’ve been conned.

Candace Owens is in way over her big head on this one and if black conservatives had access to the technology of today years ago, they’d probably be the first to tell you that it will take more than a few hundred thousand followers and hashtags to lure multitudes of blacks off the social program Democrat-dependency LBJ deployed decades ago.

And until conservatives stop using blacks when convenient, telling them who they should follow and why, they won’t be much different than Democrats.

We’ll just be their “friends” when it’s okay to be seen with or serve them.

The obvious moral of this tale is that the Democratic Party has become so dependent on the African-American vote that it cannot hope to win a national election without generating a level of enthusiasm in that community comparable to that which former President Obama enjoyed. Consequently, any Democrat with an IQ exceeding single digits should be terrified by the #WalkAway movement. Candace Owens, one of its most influential voices (ask Kanye West), constantly reminds her huge social media following that the Democratic Party has used African-Americans to gain power and provided very little in return:

Do you really think Candace Owens was the first to issue this profound, original perspective?*

Obviously, Mr. Catron was wowed and is too important to accept there may be a point of view on black politics HE hasn’t considered.

No matter how many times we have white conservative males dismiss us because THEY know she’s such an important voice in a black community they seldom frequent or engage, it’s also sad how little they still know about Candace Owens and once told, they’re ready to give her a pass because of her “social media presence”.

Sorry, Kim Kardashian and Honey Boo Boo also have a huge online presence and try qualifying that value to society.

A recent report from BuzzFeed sheds new light on Candace Owens, the melanated darling du jour of the “Make America great again” crowd, revealing that the rising conservative star ran a blog that frequently mocked Donald Trump throughout the 2016 presidential campaign.

Among the stories that ran on the site: A critical look at Trump’s Muslim ban titled, “Serious Question: Is Donald Trump a Social Experiment?,” in which the writer compared Trump to Hitler; an explainer on how Trump can still be a racist even if he’s married to an immigrant; and a satirical “investigation” into the size of Trump’s penis (spoiler: probably small, the story concludes).

BTW — Candace Owens was a “journalist” for Vogue Magazine (if you can find ONE piece she wrote… just one) but it seems to be a well-kept secret as to why she left a company one would think would revere and empower black female employees.

Like most narcissistic millennials who don’t believe anything existed before them, Candace Owens is only clumsily repeating what many others have said decades before she emerged from the tough ghetto of Stamford, Connecticut and we’d have never heard of her had Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk not needed a black face to distract from the documented racists within his nonprofit and it paid off.

Candace Owens has just been in the presence of Donald Trump.

Candace Owens wanted attention, needed a job, and has been sanctioned as the latest black “leader”. If Tweets are all it takes to be considered important, one would think Tweets would be well thought out.

And then, there’s Candace.

In May, Owens praised a Louis Farrakhan tweet praising Trump as “a really big deal” and “relevant.” After a backlash from figures on the right, traditionally no fans of the Nation of Islam chief and his history of anti-Semitic remarks, Owens deleted the tweet.

Any experienced activist with a modicum of common sense knows there are always delicate nuances to be navigated within an issue; not just pop off because you assume you must interject yourself immediately into a controversy.

Sadly, white conservative males are barely any better than liberals when it comes to their ignorant analysis of black politics. Larry Elder, Jesse Lee Peterson, the late Frances Rice, Shelby Steele, Ward Connerly, Walter Williams, Ken Hamlin, Star Parker, myself and many more have worked and lost much to share what are now declared new, fresh revelations by a social media “star”.

Political orthodoxies notwithstanding, there are plenty of black men and women who have broken from the party line on race—from anti-identity politics liberal John McWhorter to Muslim reform champion Ayaan Hirsi Ali to Wall Street Journal columnist Jason Riley to libertarian podcaster Kmele Foster to retired political scientist and Trump supporter Carol Swain to talk show hosts Larry Elder and Amy Holmes to Brown University professor Glenn Loury to Heritage Foundation president Kay Cole James. One may certainly disagree with some or all of their ideas; but no one would suspect them of being opportunists with no substance. Whether Candace Owens has any ideas at all besides the advancement of Candace Owens is very much in question.

Owens created a website to dox anyone who dared say anything negative about her yet has been given star status on Fox News. Very few on the right ever came to the defense and/or offered an almost daily seat on the curvy couch to the many black conservative activists who were left to fend off the vicious left, the Democrat Party and their hostile media. Fox News still hasn’t offered contributor David Webb a show, and we have yet to see them reach out to Herman Cain, Alan Keyes, Alfonzo Rachel, Mychal Massie, Allen West or any of the others who’ve paid dearly as a result of the onslaught received because they dared speak out against the plantation mentality.

But when Candace speaks, clutch the pearls!

Obviously Malcolm X stole Candace Owens’ brilliance*… back in 1964.

I don’t know how many times to say it, but I’ve always found it insulting that liberals and conservatives alike deem it acceptable for black people to be the ONLY demographic in the United States to have unelected leaders: leaders THEY anoint and give a platform despite dubious backgrounds and self-serving motivations. If you can scrutinize an Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, why give Candace Owens a pass?

Because too many conservative men look at her physically, too many conservative women reflexively seal-clap and click “like” and not even think to inquire as to why she’s being pushed on all of us.

Candace Owens said Thursday she believes the Democratic Party will see a “major exit” by black voters leading up to the 2020 presidential election.

The Turning Point USA communications director predicted that black men and women – not white middle-class women – will become the “most relevant vote” in the United States by 2020 because more and more African-Americans are hearing “different ideas” through digital and social media.

“There is going to be a major black exit from the Democrat Party and they are going to actually have to actually compete for their votes in 2020,” Owens said on “Fox & Friends.”

If only solving political issues within the black community were as easy as throwing out a few symbolic hashtag Tweets and Facebook posts.

Black people have been hearing “different ideas” for many years and the deaf ears continue for a variety of reasons, the least of which was a social media #WalkAway “movement”. As long as white conservatives prop up those they sanction as important while being too lazy to vet for experience, results and possible self-serving motivations, little will be achieved but then again, it’s been far from proven that the elite within the conservative movement is willing to do anything different and continue to write off black people.

And while it’s supposed to be a cute hashtag, there are risks with walking away from hostiles with no proper strategy. It’s easier to be shot in the back.

I’ve also said it many times that the black convert from Democrat-to-Republican is nothing that will be achieved by an artificial trend but are personal choices (with important familial and social considerations) to be made by those who’ve finally had enough already. Democrats use black people enough for political gain. Modern Republicans have been terrible at messaging while ignoring those blacks who’ve been trying to spread that message. Almost all lost, so it was never about their personal popularity like it is with Candace Owens.

Name ONE black so-called leader on the conservative side who’s ever exhibited such humility while in the trenches.

While the oh-so-important deployment of a hashtag will again be embraced by people who use black people for political and personal gain, the messenger delivering is always going to be important because when Candace Owens stumbles, and she will, conservatives will again look the fool for embracing another race hustler and white enablers behind the scenes will #WalkAway unscathed… again.
